The gig economy is where individuals and businesses provide work for an on-demand workforce either online or in-person. It is an attractive alternative for both men and women when the traditional labour market no longer works. But it also presents challenges: it is a site where gender inequalities in the traditional workplace are reproduced.

Over 2.6 million Australians provide informal, unpaid care to a family member or friend who lives with a disability, long-term health condition, terminal illness, or frailty. Inevitably, all informal care experiences come to an end, though the circumstances may vary; for example, the person being cared for may recover or improve, others may take over caring duties, or caring may end in bereavement.

Former carers have been shown to experience profound aftereffects of caring, including poor health, loneliness, limited employment opportunities, and financial precarity.

This five-volume publication features contributions by over eighty authors from around the globe and casts a wide gaze across themes that are drawn from the works in the exhibition. Intended to operate in a broader setting than a traditional exhibition catalogue, the volume presents discourses from a variety of perspectives, including those of academics, journalists, literary figures, social commentators, artists and curators.

How much do young people’s daily activities differ according to where they live? As a global generation, young people are disproportionally subject to the risks and insecurity of globalization. However, countries differ in their support for young people’s inclusion through economic and social participation.

Over the last few hundred years, marriage and family life have undergone major changes. Globally, there have been declines in the rates of marriage, increasing age at marriage, and increasing rates of divorce. These changes have led some to argue that the family practices of the West are permeating non-Western, less wealthy countries and therefore country differences in marriage and family practice are declining.
